Transistor starts off with a girl, a dead body, a talking sword, along with a dying city. Red can be a singer without having voice, kept in a sprawling digital metropolis being erased by white robot programs known as the Process. Byte by byte, block by block, Cloudbank has become nothingness from the form of a major city. But Red has got the Transistor, the mysterious sword she pulled from the dead body at her feet. will be the hero, although the Transistor plays both narrator and star. Eight hours after grasping that sword, I reached the conclusion of Reds journey obsessed about the Transistors deeply nuanced combat abilities-and disappointed how the world around her felt so shallow in contrast.
Like Bastion, Supergiants first game, Transistor is definitely an action RPG placed in a dying world, by using a narrator keeping you company while you play. The narration works equally well mainly because it did in Bastion (and originates from exactly the same voice actor), lending emotion to your stoic silent protagonist and offering context and insight in regards to the world. I learned to conserve my heaviest hits for last.
After investing in a sequence of attacks, the globe snaps back in action and enemies relocate slow-mo as Red attacks instantly. Theres an incredible cadence to combat. Ill sometimes spend a complete minute planning the most beneficial turn, then watch Red execute four Process in as much seconds. The reward for mastery is really a quick, satisfying victory.
