The first step is to ensure that you have a SIM card installed in the device that is NOT your original SIM card. So any sim from an alternate carrier will work. The phone may ask you for the unlock code once powered on but if not:
Next, go to the Manage Connections menu and and select Turn All Connections Off.
Now you need to go to the SIM Card screen.
How Do I Access the "SIM Card" Screen?
Last Updated: Oct 06, 2011 04:52PM EDT
To get to the SIM Card screen, traverse the menus in the following sequence:
Options
Advanced Options
SIM Card
For newer BlackBerries (those on OS6, etc), the path through the menus is as follows:
Options
Device
Advanced System Settings
SIM Card
Once on the SIM Card screen, you can enter the unlock code(s). This step varies slightly depending on what model BlackBerry youre working with:
For most devices, you can type MEP2 to enter your Network unlock code or MEP4 to enter your Service Provider unlock code.
For Pearls, youll need to type MEPP2 to enter your Network unlock code or MEPP4 to enter your Service Provider unlock code.
For older models (8700s and older), youll need to type MEPE to enter your Network unlock code.
While you are pressing the keys described above, you wont see anything appear on the screen until youve typed the whole sequence, at which point a prompt will appear to let you type in your unlock code. After youve entered the unlock code, you should see a "Code Acccepted" message.
When youre finished entering in the unlock code(s), you then need to restart the device.
When the device has booted back up, go to the Manage Connections menu and and select Restore Connections.
